Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce Award
2007
The Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce honored The Second Step with its Outstanding Organization Award on November 20, 2007, at its 92nd Annual Achievement Breakfast and Award Ceremony.  The ceremony recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses that have a positive impact in the Newton-Needham community. 

City of Newton “Unsung Hero” Award
2007

In 2007, Newton Mayor David Cohen gave former Executive Director Liz Kirsch the “Unsung Hero” Award from the City of Newton for her outstanding service to the community. Liz was nominated in recognition of her fifteen years of extraordinary efforts to help rebuild the lives of domestic violence victims.

Red Cross Heroes Award
2006
The Second Step was honored by the American Red Cross MetroWest Area 2006 Group Heroes Award held on June 6th, 2006, at the Newton Marriott. This award is given to community heroes whose efforts benefit a community in MetroWest.  The Second Step was recognized for the difference it makes in the lives of the hundreds of families it serves. 

Boston Parent's Paper Family Advocate Award
2002

The Boston Parent’s Paper awarded The Second Step its Family Advocate Award in 2002 based on nominations from readers and family-service agencies.  The Family Advocate Award is given “to people and organizations that have recognized a need and made sure that need is met no matter no matter what the obstacle or challenge.”

Audrey Nelson Community Achievement Award
1998

In 1998, The Second Step received the prestigious Audrey Nelson Community Development Achievement Award.  This national award, created in 1987, is one of six presented annually by the National Community Development Foundation in Washington, D.C., in recognition of exemplary service to families and neighborhoods.
