The Second Step funds its $1.8 million annual operating budget through a combination of public grants and private contributions.
The Second Step receives federal funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), The Department of Justice, and the Department of Public Health; state funding from Department of Social Services (DSS) through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; and city funding through the City of Newton Community Block Development grants.
For over 50% of our operating budget, we rely on charitable gifts from individuals, groups, private foundations and companies. We host numerous special fundraising events throughout the year.
