NEWTON Massachusetts, June 01, 2009 Lisa Monahan, local jewelry
artist, launches the "Switch Gear Graduation Project" and presents each
of this year's Second Step graduates with a Switch Gear(tm) Kit, a
versatile earring wardrobe containing combinable hoops, pendants, and
chains for a design-it-yourself system of 100s of pairs of earrings and
over a year's worth of unique looks.
In addition, Monahan donates a portion of proceeds from each Switch
Gear(tm) Kit sold to The Second Step, Inc (TSS). Monahan donated $2,500
to TSS in May of this year.
Monahan, a longtime supporter of The Second Step, describes her
motivation: "The Second Step women and their children are "switching
gears" to rebuild their lives," she says. "It seems fitting that they
each have their own Switch Gear(tm) Kit. I am honored to be connected
with The Second Step, and delighted to be able to give back to the
community in a meaningful way."
The Second Step provides transitional housing, stabilization services,
case management, therapeutic after school care for children, legal
advocacy, financial literacy, educational and employment supports,
mentor programs, community outreach and other services for domestic
violence survivor families.
All people have a right to safety and dignity in relationships. The
Second Step is dedicated to adult and child survivors of domestic
violence. Responding to each family's strengths and values, we partner
to enhance supportive community and identify pathways to physical and
emotional healing, housing, and financial security. We work at the
individual, community and societal levels to end domestic violence. The
Second Step, a non-profit organization, is located in Newton,
Massachusetts, and was founded in 1992.
