This year, The Second Step celebrated the accomplishments of four graduates – Cheryl, Felicienne, Marilu, and Stella – who have broken the cycle of domestic violence and rebuilt their lives. They have moved on to live independently from their abusers and now support themselves and their children. They have worked hard and overcome many obstacles.
Again, our gracious guest hosts Marjorie Clapprood and Susan Wornick, led the program at the Newton Marriott on April 30, 2003. More than 300 guests and sponsors raised over $98,000 for programming activities at The Second Step.
The evening opened with a song performed by the child of a former graduate and included presentations by three graduates. The program also included the announcement of the recipients of the first annual Founders Awards for outstanding volunteer service to The Second Step:
Youth Volunteer: Sarah Ballou
Adult Volunteer: Mary Anne Greene
Corporate Volunteer: Beth Perna and FT Interactive Data
A Special Volunteer Award was presented to Joan Tepper, Coordinator of Volunteers at The Second Step.
