Since 1992, The Second Step has empowered nearly 2,000 women and children to move beyond the trauma of domestic violence to lead safe, productive, independent and fulfilling lives. Under the leadership of Executive Director Liz Kirsch, our programs for survivors of domestic violence and their children received national and local awards for excellence. After 15 years of life-changing accomplishments, Liz retired at the end of 2007.
To build upon the strong foundation established by Liz, we welcome Roberta Rosenberg to succeed Liz as Executive Director effective January 1, 2008. After an extensive nationwide search over the past five months, we were delighted to find the most qualified candidate in our own backyard. Roberta is a Newton resident whose knowledge of the greater Boston community will be an asset to The Second Step.
Roberta is a respected executive leader, with over 30 years of experience in the management of not-for-profit organizations. She combines strategic vision, operational excellence, and team-building skills to grow results-oriented social services organizations. She is a supporter of The Second Step, and brings a passion for setting survivors of domestic violence on a safe path to personal and professional growth.
Roberta has been a leader of local organizations that provide housing and social services to persons with special needs, including the elderly. Most recently, she served as Vice President for Resident Programs and Policy Development at Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly in Boston. Earlier in her career, Roberta founded the Multicultural Coalition on Aging and was President of the Board of the Alzheimer’s Association (MA Chapter). Roberta earned a master’s degree in Special Education from Boston College and a bachelor’s degree in Education and Special Education from Lesley University.
With Roberta’s strong executive leadership, The Second Step stands ready to continue its vital mission to break the cycle of domestic violence. Please join us in welcoming Roberta as our new Executive Director, and in thanking Liz for 15 years of dedication to the success of The Second Step.
