CHAMPIONS TOUR WIVES ASSOCIATION HELPS THE SECOND STEP MOVE ONE STEP CLOSER TO BREAKING THE CYCLE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
National Non-Profit Supports Efforts and Services of Newton-based Organization
Newton, MA., Summer 2004 -- Recently, during the 2004 Bank of America Championship, June 22-27 at Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord, Mass., The Champions Tour Wives Association. generously donated $20,000 to The Second Step (TSS), a Newton-based transitional program for battered women and their children.
The donation to TSS is just a part of the organizations strong commitment to distribute $116,000 in 2004 to local charities in selected tournament cities across the nation.
Champions Tour Wives Association is the creation of the wives of the players on the Champions Tour. A Florida not-for-profit charitable corporation begun in 1994, Champions Tour Wives Association is made up of the professional golf players wives and other individuals and corporations who are interested in its many philanthropic endeavors, such as fundraising, participation in literacy programs, and work with infants and sick children.
They are truly committed to helping others through the organizations that focus on meeting the various needs of women and their families. Since the inception of Champion Tour Wives Association, they have donated more than $1,755,000 to charities around the country.
With Champions Tour Wives Association’s focus on women and families, it is only fitting that they would take a special interest in The Second Step. TSS is a private, non-profit organization that helps women and their children break the cycle of domestic violence and eventually become self-sufficient.
“Our mission is to help organizations that make a difference in the communities that they serve,” said Michelle Green, President, the Champions Tour Wives Association. “The Second Step Organization is a shining example of an organization that helps women and their families take the first step towards independence and a lifestyle free of violence.
We are excited to support such a worthwhile program.”
“Women are willing to put up with a great deal in an abusive relationship, but when it starts to affect their kids, then they realize it’s time to get out,” said Liz Kirsch, executive director of The Second Step.
“We’re honored by the Champions Tour Wives’ generous gift. Their donation to The Second Step will keep our necessary services operating and make many families feel very happy and most importantly, safe.”
TSS remains successful through the help of organizations such as Champions Tour Wives Association. Forty percent of their income is generated through donations.
The remainder comes from federal, state and local grants. This is why the gift received from Champions Tour Wives is so greatly appreciated.
